improving design by simulation

Manufacturing

Fighter planeIn today’s competitive manufacturing environment, faster time to market, product reliability and reduced development costs can spell the difference between success and failure. By “virtual prototyping”, candidate designs can be evaluated, problem areas identified and corrected early in the development cycle. This can dramatically reduce the cost of testing and, by facilitating a concurrent engineering approach to optimisation, compress development lead times.

In the real world, sometimes products do under-perform, fail or suffer from niggling problems of reliability, damaging your hard-earned reputation unless quickly put right. In addition to physical evidence from the field, simulation can be used to identify underlying causes, quantify problematic behaviour and evaluate redesign options.

We use advanced software tools such as finite element analysis (FEA), computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to steer product design and development, analyse stresses and temperatures, predict the effects of fluid-structure interaction and estimate damage from mechanisms such as creep, fatigue, wear and erosion.  We offer these design support services on a consultancy basis and also provide specialist expertise in sealing and tribology.

Examples of Manufacturing sectors we work with include:

  • Aerospace
  • Auotomotive
  • OEM
  • White goods

Typical equipment includes:

  • Bearings and seals
  • Drive train
  • Valves and actuators
  • Heat exchangers
